OSCARS GROOVED UP WITH JAI HO

OSCARS MEIN INDIA KI JAI HO......
Oscars grooved up with "JAI HO" the song from the movie "SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE" as"Slumdog Millionaire" won eight of its 10 nominations in a ceremony that had India written all over. Best Picture, Best Director (Danny Boyle), Best Adapted Screenplay(Simon Beaufoy), Best Original Score (A.R. Rahman), Best Original Song (Jai Ho)(A.R. Rahman and Gulzar), Best Cinematography(Anthony Dod Mantle), Best Sound Mixing(Resul Pookutty) and Best Film Editing(Chris Dickens)!
It was India's day at the Oscars, one of the year's most watched events on world television, with Indian music, Indian dance and Indian colours sweeping the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.

In his acceptance speech after bagging the Original Score Academy A.R RAHAMAN said"Before coming here I was excited and terrified. The last time I felt that way was when I was getting married,"

"There is a Hindi dialogue 'mere pass ma hai' which means even if I have got nothing I have my mother here. I want to thank her for coming all the way to support me,

"There is something I say (in Tamil) whenever I win an award: 'Ella pugazlum iravanuku' (which means 'all the fame and the glory I dedicate to god'," he said.

"It is not an award, but history being handed over to me," said Pookutty
, who shared the Oscar with Ian Tapp and Richard Pryke, and dedicated his award to his country.

The evening climaxed with much of the cast and crew up with producer Christian Colson as he accepted the best picture award.

"As you can see, our film was a collaboration between hundreds of people, and I am so happy that so many of them could be with us here tonight to share this moment. Together we've been on an extraordinary, extraordinary journey. When we started out, we had no stars, we had no power or muscle. We didn't have enough money really to do what we wanted to do. But what we had was a script that has inspired mad love in everyone who read it," said Colson.

Also up on stage were 10-year-old Azharuddin and nine-year-old Rubina, who played key roles in the movie and travelled from their homes in a Mumbai slum to the star-studded event.

The another film which made INDIA proud was "Smile Pinki" by American Megan Mylan, this fils is about a poor village girl whose cleft lip made her a social outcast till her life changed after a meeting with a social worker, picked up an Oscar for best short documentary.

President Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and a host of others echoed the mood as they congratulated the Oscar winners saying they had made India proud.

Kareema Begum (AR Rahman’s mother)
My first thanks is to God who has made him grow so big. I think it is the reward for the amount of hard work he put into all his musical tracks. This double delight has brought glory to the nation.

Jai Ho,' say film fraternity

Amitabh Bachchan

Rehman and Resul deserve the Oscars and I feel extremely proud to be an Indian. They have done us great service by bringing Indian cinema to a recognised international forum. I am very happy that our musicians and technicians have been rewarded.

Kareena Kapoor

Well done Rahman! As someone who loves cinema, I would like to thank Rahman personally for opening the doors
internationally for us. It is a proud moment for our country and we should all celebrate this event together.
Aamir Khan
My heartfelt congrats to the team. It was a moment of pride as I saw Rahman and Resulm, who worked with me in Ghajini, go up there and make history. Whether this has paved the way for Indian cinema, we will get to know only when the process begins. But the fact is that talent from our side of the continent has been recognised, which is great.
Preity Zinta
I was 100 per cent sure Rahman was going to win the award. He has made such fabulous music. Rasool too has captured the sound of Mumbai so fantastically and Gulzar saab’s lyrics are out of this world. With Indians being recognised internationally, all the boundaries between the east and the west are finally being erased.

It was histoyr , a very proud day for INDIA,JAI HO!
